A couple of would-be thieves encountered an unforeseen impediment while trying to rob a Florida gas station this week: The front door.
Surveillance footage from a Mobil station shared by the Port St. Lucie Police Department shows two suspects as they attempted to force their way inside the store early Tuesday morning.
When one suspect used a hammer to try and break through the door, the glass fractures but holds strong.
After several unsuccessful hits with the hammer, the suspect then rammed his body into the shattered door but was still unsuccessful in gaining entry, Port St. Lucie police said in a statement.
The second suspect also used a hammer to attempt to gain entry, but was also unable to penetrate the glass.
The problem? It was impact-resistant glass.
Perhaps realizing their mistake, cops said, "The suspects then fled the scene in shame."
Now police are asking the public for help identifying the would-be thieves. If you have any information on this case, please call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273 TIPS.
