High winds on Thursday blew a truck and its driver into the chilly waters of Virginia's Chesapeake Bay.
The tractor-trailer crashed through the guardrail of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel at about 12:30 p.m.
According to authorities, the driver was alive after the crash and atop the floating truck as a Navy helicopter flew to the scene.
The driver was pulled from the bay a little after 1 p.m., according to reports.
Unfortunately, the driver died while being transported to a hospital, a Navy spokesperson told WTKR.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel officials have since identified the victim as 47-year-old Joseph Chen from Greenville, N.C.
Around the time of the accident Thursday, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel was operating with a level one wind restriction due to winds in excess of 40 miles per hour.
