A Delaware woman credited officers for saving her husband’s life by previously giving him a ticket for driving without a seatbelt on.

The woman wrote that officers gave her husband the ticket a month ago. Sunday morning her husband got into a wreck, but this time he was wearing his seatbelt.

"Thank you, Officer Quillen, for writing my husband that seat belt ticket a month ago. Because he didn't want another ticket, he was wearing his seat belt properly this morning when another vehicle crossed the center line and hit him head on in Smyrna when he was on his way to work,” she wrote in a letter addressed to officers.

The man’s truck was reportedly completely totaled but he had something to say about only suffering bruises and swelling from the crash.

"It was the first thing he said when I got to the hospital this morning, 'I have to call that officer and say thank you,” the woman wrote. “I'm saying thank you, also, because I believe that it saved his life, today. We've been married for 27 years. We're raising 2 of our grandchildren. I need him.”

Officers posted the note saying, "This is why we do what we do."
