Married Senator and Trump Supporter Found at Motel With Teen Faces Child Prostitution Charge: Authorities

Oklahoma Sen. Ralph Shortey, a member of Trump's state leadership team, now faces three felony charges of engaging in child prostitution, authorities said.

Child prostitution charges have been filed against Oklahoma Sen. Ralph Shortey, a member of President Trump’s state leadership team, after he was found with an underage boy in a motel room, authorities said Thursday.

Shortey, 35, a conservative Republican who is married and has two children, was discovered by police in a room that reeked of "raw marijuana," according to a court affidavit seeking a search warrant.

Shortey and the 17-year-old acknowledged they had engaged in conversations about "sexual activities in exchange for money," the document said.

The politician was charged with felony counts of engaging in child prostitution, engaging in child prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church and transporting a minor for prostitution, authorities said.

He turned himself in Thursday afternoon, authorities said. Bail was set at $100,000, The Oklahoman reported.

A phone message left by InsideEdition.com with the senator’s office was not immediately returned. He has not commented publicly about the investigation.

On Wednesday, the state senate suspended Shortey for "disorderly behavior." He was first elected in 2010 and was known for controversial legislation, including a measure that would have banned aborted fetuses from being used in food products.

Police knocked at the door of room 120 at the discount motel in an Oklahoma City suburb in response to a call from the boy’s father, who said his son had a history of drug abuse and “soliciting himself for sexual conduct,” according to the affidavit.

The father said his son had entered the room with an older man.

Inside, investigators questioned Shortey and the teenager.  Police found online conversations between the two, with the teenager saying, "I want you bad daddy," the document said.

Shortey replied with an expletive, indicating he would have sex with "you like a good little boy if you keep calling me daddy."

Shortey, an outspoken Trump supporter, had posted a photo of him with Donald Trump Jr. to his Facebook account after he was questioned last week. The page was taken down by Wednesday evening.

Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb called on Shortey to resign Thursday “so the good people of southwest Oklahoma City can move forward with electing a new state senator," he said in a statement.

“Oklahomans deserve to be represented by those above reproach,” he said. “Ralph Shortey has clearly failed to achieve this minimum standard.”
