Donald Trump Investigates President Obama

Donald Trump has taken his birther theory a step farther by hiring a team of investigators in Hawaii to find out if President Obama was born there. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

He's at it again. Donald Trump is ramping up his heated questioning about whether President Obama was really born in the U.S.

"He may not have been born in this country. I would like to have him show his birth certificate and can I be honest with you? I hope he can because if he can't and he wasn't born in this country, then he has pulled one of the greatest cons in the history of politics," said Trump.

In an interview with the Today show's Meredith Vieira, Trump revealed that he's actually hired a team of investigators in Hawaii, where Obama was born in 1961.

"You have people down there now searching in Hawaii?" asked Vieira.

"Absolutely, and they can't believe what they are finding," said Trump.

Trump also made another audacious allegation about Obama's birthplace.

"His grandmother in Kenya says he was born in Kenya and she was there and witnessed the birth, okay?" said Trump.

The claim comes from a 2008 interview during which the President's grandmother purportedly told a translator that her grandson had been born in Kenya.

The interviewer asked, "Was she present when he was born in Kenya?"

The translator said, "She says yes, she was. She was present when Obama was born."

But details from the rest of the interview make it seem like the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

"Was he born in Mombassa?" asked the interviewer.

"Obama was not born in Mombassa. He was born in America," said the translator.

"I thought he was born in Kenya," said the interviewer.

"He was born in America, not in Mombassa. She says he was born in Hawaii," said the translator.

Beth Frerking from Politico.com told INSIDE EDITION, "We've had the republican governor of Hawaii say that Obama's birth certificate is accurate and valid. This has been rehashed, and hashed and rehashed, with a lot of people saying, 'Look, it's valid. Let's move on.' "

Now, two big time Bills, Bill Clinton and Bill Cosby, are bashing Trump.

Bill Clinton said, "One of the elementary rules of combat is you don't want to get in your opponent's way if he's shooting himself in the foot."

Bill Cosby said on the Today show, "Oh please with Donald Trump. Take him home with you."

"Why do you say that?" asked Meredith Vieira.

"Because he's full of it," said Cosby.

Obama doesn't seem to bothered by Trump's attacks. He was in a cheerful mood singing Happy Birthday to an ABC News producer last night on Air Force One.
