The show, Young Sheldon, which stars Iain Armitage, 8, in the lead role, follows the early years of the genius physicist.

“It's about Sheldon Cooper when he is nine years old,” he told Inside Edition on the red carpet.

Ironman director Jon Favreau was at the helm for the first episode and will also serve as executive producer to the show.

Emmy winner Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon, says he's excited about the spinoff.

“It made me realize I’m even more fond of this character than I thought I was,” he told Inside Edition.
