A terminally ill man in California was arrested last week on charges he intended to kill three of his doctors.

The arrest came after calls were made to authorities in the Bay Area from the Visalia Police Department reporting that a man from their jurisdiction was potentially on his way to murder three of his doctors.

Officers from the Visalia Police Department say they developed information that 58-year-old Yue Chen had rented a car and taken two legally owned handguns with him on a 4-hour drive to Palo Alto.

Once there, police believed Chen intended to murder the physicians because he was upset about his medical condition and the treatment he had received from the intended victims.

The Visalia Police Department contacted multiple police agencies in the Bay Area that had jurisdiction over the work locations of the allegedly targeted doctors, as well as any doctors who had treated the suspect for what local reports say is his stage 4 cancer, according to a statement from Palo Alto Police.

A bulletin was broadcast to police agencies throughout the state to be on the lookout for the suspect and rental car. Police also took precautions to identify the home residences of the involved doctors, in case the suspect chose to target them there.

On the evening of May 31, the California Highway Patrol stopped Chen on Highway 101 in San Jose. Officers say he was in posession of two loaded semi-automatic handguns with high-capacity magazines.

Chen was arrested without incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment related to his medical condition.

When the suspect was discharged later that same evening, he was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder and carrying a loaded firearm.
