A Pennsylvania man was seriously injured when a SUV intentionally slammed into him as he paid his respects to a departed family member at a cemetery, authorities said.

Thomas and Tricia Lowden were visiting a relative’s grave Sunday when the vehicle veered toward them at Irwin Cemetery in Stewart Township.

The couple were preparing to leave when the driver of the SUV started its engine, accelerated and hit Thomas, according to KDKA-TV.

“We believe it was an intentional act because the SUV left the path of the grass and struck Mr. Lowden,” Trooper Robert Broadwater told the television station.

Officials have no motive for the attack.

Thomas Lowden left unconscious and seriously hurt.

Tricia Lowden, who was not injured, called 911 and her husband was flown to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was later released and is recovering at home.

“I keep reliving every moment over and over again in my head, especially the moment when I thought I had lost my soul mate,” Tricia Lowden told KDKA-TV. “I need now to just focus on being by his side, helping him on his long road to recovery.”

Investigators are searching for the SUV and its owner.
