Social Media Erupts as Melania Trump is Seen Wearing High Heels for Trip to Flood-Ravaged Texas

The first lady was later seen wearing sneakers after she and President Trump landed in the storm-ravaged region.

President Trump and first lady departed Washington for flood-ravaged Texas Tuesday, but it is Melania Trump’s questionable fashion that is making headlines — and drawing ire from critics.

The first lady turned heads in a pair of black snakeskin stilettos, high-water pants, an Army green bomber jacket. Despite the rain, aviator sunglasses completed her Top Gun look.

An aide carried two pieces of Louis Vuitton luggage, presumably containing a change of clothes, to Air Force One.

Critics were quick to judge her fashion choices, especially the high heels, considering that she was on her way to the flooded areas of despair in Texas.

Vogue went with the headline, “Melania Trump's Hurricane Stilettos, and the White House's Continual Failure to Understand Optics” on their website.

The Twitterverse exploded with quips about Mrs. Trump’s look.

“Someone tell Melania she might want a pair of rain boots,” read one comment.

“She's wearing stilettos. So out of touch,” was another.

But not everyone believed the focus should be on the first lady's footwear.

“You've got some nerve criticizing @flotus in the midst of the tragedy unfolding in Texas,” said one supporter.

“The fact that she cares enough to go is what is important,” was another comment.

By the time the Trumps touched down in Texas, the first lady had a much more casual look with a "FLOTUS" baseball cap. The bomber jacket was gone and the stilettos were switched for a pair of sneakers.

"It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes," a spokeswoman for the first lady said.
