Scene of the Crime: Inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel Where Vegas Shooter Began Concert Massacre

Sadly, the hotel will now be known as the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

The upscale Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is the last hotel on the Las Vegas strip and is in close proximity to the site of Sunday night's horrific rampage that has become the deadliest shooting in modern American history.

In this home video, taken a year ago, a hotel guest shares the view from the 34th floor and the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Sunday night's madman was just two floors below with the same view. As the windows do not open, cops say the killer, Stephen Paddock, used a hammer to break the window before spraying the crowd below with bullets.

“We believe he had a device similar to a hammer to smash the window,” Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday during a press conference.

The 3,000-room Mandalay Bay is one of Vegas’ most lavish hotels. It opened in 1999 to great fanfare with Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi and John Goodman performing as The Blues Brothers at a grand opening ceremony.

It took the place of the Hacienda Hotel, which was imploded in a party-like atmosphere on New Year’s Eve in 1996.

The Mandalay Bay hotel sits at the south end of the famous strip, next to the-pyramid shaped Luxor and clustered near the castle-like Excalibur. The Venetian and Bellagio resorts are also nearby.

Mandalay Bay is currently the home of the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show, ONE. It also has a popular high-end shopping mall and a giant beach pool that actually produces artificial waves.
