The shocking not guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony trial brings to mind another famous acquittal.
With the nation glued to coverage of the Casey Anthony trial, it's quickly becoming the case of the century. But for many, the proceedings evoke a sense of déjà vu.
The trial is undoubtedly reminiscent of the fascination America had with O.J. Simpson's trial in 1995.
So, has the trial of Casey Anthony surpassed O.J.'s in popularity? It certainly looks like it.
Casey Anthony's parents sat in court almost every day. Their presence was eerily similar to that of Ron Goldman's family, who were also perched in the O.J. Simpson courtroom almost daily.
Ron Goldman's sister, Kim, said she can't bring herself to watch much of the Casey Anthony trial. For her, it brings up memories that are much too painful to relive.
"Having everybody be a Monday morning quarterback and be a pundit for our case was difficult," Goldman said.
Goldman said these cases attract those who are desperate for a front row seat to a train wreck.
"I think they just want to be part of the chaos. They want to be able to say that they were there, they were a moment in history," she said.
Now, just like with O.J. Simpson, the Casey Anthony trial is destined to go down in history as one of the most controversial ever.
