Identity of Kissing Couple at Vancouver Riots Revealed
It's the jaw-dropping photo that's gone viral around the world.
As all hell broke loose during the Vancouver riot, a couple layed in the street and shared a passionate kiss.
Now we're learning the identity of the star-crossed lovers. He's a 29-year-old comedian from Australia named Scott Jones. She's a Canadian college student named Alex Thomas. And they just started dating.
Jones and Thomas were attending game seven of the Stanley Cup finals that the Vancouver Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins.
They found themselves trapped in the mayhem outside the arena when Alex suddenly fell and injured her leg.
Jones's father gave a Skype interview from his home in Australia, saying: "She was crying and upset so Scott was lying next to her just comforting her and as part of that, he gave her a kiss on the lips to say it was going to be okay."
A moment after the kiss, you can see Jones looking around for help. A witness on the roof snapped the photo as people rushed to come to her aide.
On his Facebook page, Jones wrote of the kiss seen round the world: "Classic! This was shortly after the riot police run over the top of us and naturally Alex needed some comforting."
Their kiss reminds many of the iconic photo taken in New York's Times Square on the day World War II ended.
It's also getting the full comedy treatment from Jay Leno where he showed video clips that were edited with Jones and Thomas's images superimposed in the middle of a hockey game and the running of the bulls in Spain.
But there's nothing funny about the disturbing new images of the riot just posted on YouTube.
The video was shot by the bystanders who were smack in the middle of the appalling chaos as rioters smashed police cars. Stores were also looted. And one crazy guy even threw himself into the flames of a burning car.
But amid the senseless violence there was love among the ruins. And a knight in shining armor.
