Jaycee Dugard Breaks Her Silence

Jaycee Dugard is breaking her silence about her 18 years in captivity in People magazine and her first TV interview with Diane Sawyer. INSIDE EDITION has the details.

In her first TV interview since her rescue, kidnap survivor Jaycee Dugard tells the world how she survived 18 years of captivity in Phillip Garrido's backyard of horrors.

"You just do what you have to do to survive. There's a switch that I had to shut off," said Dugard.

Dugard, now 31, has written a book, A Stolen Life. She's on the cover of People magazine, and is giving her first TV interview to ABC's Diane Sawyer.

"I'm trying to imagine how you are coping," said Sawyer.

"I don't know. I can't imagine being beaten to death, and you can't imagine being kidnapped and raped, you know," said Dugard.

She is now a pretty brunette and she still has the sweet smile of the little girl who disappeared when she was 11.

In the interview, she doesn't hold back, talking openly about being repeatedly raped by the monster Garrido, becoming pregnant twice, and giving birth in that backyard.

"You're in labor and there's nobody there, having a baby in a backyard," asked Sawyer.

"Yep, I did. Very painful. But then I saw her. She was beautiful. I felt like I wasn't alone anymore," said Dugard.
