Bob Barker Horrified By Animal Massacre In Ohio

Bob Barker says he was horrified by the massacre of wild animals in Ohio.

"This should never have happened. A man with 56 wild animals! Can you picture that?" said Barker.
"Do you think in your heart that this tragedy was a disaster just waiting to happen?" asked INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret.

"Of course it was a disaster waiting to happen! He should never have had that many animals, he shouldn't have any wild animals," said Barker.

Terry Thompson released the wild beasts he kept on his property, then shot himself. Forty-nine of the animals had to be shot dead by deputies.

Barker, who hosted The Price is Right for 35 years and is probably the nation's best known animal rights advocate, says he has no problem with the way authorities handled the crisis.

"They did what they had to do. They were protecting people and pets and it's unfortunate," said Barker.

He says people should not be allowed to own wild animals like leopards and tigers in the first place.

"Owning a wild animal is a purely selfish thing. The animal cannot possibly be happy in your home. They're probably not fed correctly, they're living in their own filth," said Barker.

Barker is campaigning for tough new laws banning ownership of wild animals, even in circuses.

"Wild animal collectors are proliferating. There are more and more in the United States and we have to do something to stop it," said Barker.
