Herman Cain says he is reassessing his presidential bid after denying claims by a woman who came forward saying she had a 13-year affair with the former Godfather's Pizza CEO. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Herman Cain is "reassessing" his presidential run in the wake of a woman's claim that they had a 13-year affair.
Cain held an emergency conference call with his entire national staff today. He stuck to his story that he was friends with the woman but that nothing inappropriate had occurred.
"Was this an affair?" CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Cain.
"No, it was not," said Cain.
"There was no sex?" asked Blitzer.
"No," said Cain.
"None?" pressed Blitzer.
"No," Cain said.
The nation's top political reporters all agreed that Cain's survival as a candidate was doubtful.
"Everybody knows this candidacy is basically dead," NBC's Chuck Todd said on Today.
And we're learning more about the single mom from Atlanta who says she was Cain's mistress.
"I wanted to come out and give my side before it was thrown out there and made out to be something filthy," Ginger White told Fox News.
White has a long history of financial and legal problems, including a bankruptcy filing and eviction notices. One eviction was served on her just two weeks ago.
White also filed a sexual harassment claim against a former employer, and her business partner once sued her for slander.
She says she first met Cain in the 1990s in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was speaking as head of the National Restaurant Association. She claims he invited her to his hotel room and laid on the charm:
"I'd like to see you again. You are beautiful to me, and I would love for us to continue this friendship."
"He made it very intriguing. It was fun, it was something that took me away from my sort of hum-drum life at the time," she said.
White says over the years, they had rendezvous in hotels like The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta. She says the affair ended eight months ago, right before Cain declared his run for the presidency.
White gave phone records to an Atlanta TV station, showing 61 calls and texts from Cain's private cell phone. The calls came in at all hours of the day and night, including one at 4:26 a.m.
Cain says he called White because he was trying to help with her financial problems.
