America Praises Gabby Douglas
She's America's Olympic golden girl. The remarkable Gabby Douglas became the first black gymnast ever to win the gold medal for all-around gymnastics.
New York Post blared, "Head Over Heels: America Loves Golden Gabby."
Now, the 16-year-old sensation known as "The Flying Squirrel" is expected to make a fortune in endorsements, upwards of $10 million according to experts. And it looks like they're right, she's already on the cover of the Kellogg's Corn Flakes box.
TJ Walker, CEO of Media Training Worldwide, told INSIDE EDITION, "Gabby Douglas is the ultimate dream for any advertiser. She's successful, she's a champion, she's likeable, she's got that great smile."
While on the campaign trail in Virginia, President Obama said, "Just to acknowledge our unbelievable U.S. atheletes who are representing us in London, including Virginia's own Gabby Douglas."
And super swimmer Michael Phelps also chimed in on twitter, saying, "Congrats to @gabrielledoug last night!!! We watched from the pool!!! #USA."
And Beyonce posted a message on her website that said, "A huge congratulations to 16-year-old Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas. Wow, what a thrill to watch you take this gold!"
The bubbly teen began training at 6. Two years ago, at 14, she left her mother and siblings to move to Iowa and train with famed coach, Liang Chow. But, in 2011, Douglas considered giving it all up. Luckily, her mother wouldn't let her give up her dream.
In a Proctor and Gamble ad, Gabby said, "Mom come on, you're supposed to be on my side on this one. You're supposed to let the baby come home. She told me life is not easy, you have to fight and refuse to quit."
Her hard work certainly paid off.
Air Force staff sergeant, Timothy Douglas, surprised her at the Olympic Trials.
Dominique Dawes, a member of the Magnificent Seven who took home the gymnastics team gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, sobbed as she watched Douglas' big win. She said, "I am just so thrilled for Gabby, her family, her mother, her sisters, her dad."
With her award winning smile, nothing can stand in the way of America's newest sweetheart.
