Viral Video of Baby Goat Saved By A Pig Proved To Be A Hoax

Airdate: 02/27/2013

It is an amazing video of a baby goat who looked in danger of drowning at a petting zoo until a little pig swam to the rescue and led the terrified animal to safety.

The video has gone viral and has been viewed more than seven million times on YouTube.

And it was picked up everywhere, from the Today show, NBC Nightly News, Fox and Friends, and Good Morning America.

But now, The New York Times revealed the touching video is "really cute but completely fake."

It is actually a clip from a new Comedy Central show called Nathan For You, in which comedian Nathan Fielder stages outrageous stunts to promote small businesses, like this video for a California petting zoo.

Far from being a spontaneous moment of animal adorableness, it took a team of 20 people, including animal trainers and a professionally trained movie pig to shoot the video. It turns out the petting zoo's own pig was terrified of water. A clear plastic track was laid for the pig to follow, and there were even scuba divers holding the animal above the water.

Fielder said in his show, “I was hoping this would fool the internet audience into believing the video was real.”

It sure did.

Brian Williams said, "The New York Times has uncovered a story we'll just call 'pig gate.'"

Nathan Fielder says he didn't set out to hoax the media, he just posted the video online and sat back to watch what happened next.
