Julia Merfeld pleaded guilty to soliciting murder - after she attempted to have her own husband murdered. INSIDE EDITION has all of the shocking details.
An ice-cold wife chuckled as she hired a hitman to murder her husband. What Julia Merfeld didn't know was that the "hitman" was an undercover cop. In two separate meetings, a hidden camera recorded the entire plot.
"You don't want it done in the house?" asked the hitman.
"Cause it would be messy in the house,” she laughed.
The reason she wants her husband killed will shock you. She explains, “It was easier than divorcing him.”
Cops say 21-year-old Merfeld, a waitress, first tried to talk a colleague into killing her husband, Jake. That colleague went to authorities. Police in Muskegon, Michigan set up the hidden camera inside the car.
"I'm going to need a picture of him so I make sure you get the right guy," said the hitman.
Merfeld tried to figure out what would be the best day to murder Jake. "It has to be on a Thursday cause that's the day that I work. But, well, actually it could be on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday now."
"How do you want me to do it?" asked the hitman.
"Whatever's easiest for you,” she replied. "If you can get him outside, that would be great. But, I mean, if you absolutely can't, I will understand, you know?"
Merfeld apparently decides it wouldn't be a good idea to make it look like her husband was killed during a break-in. "I have a girlfriend who wants to move in with me, and I don't want her to be scared to move in with me if she thinks that we got broken into and that Jake got, you know."
She shows the hitman a diagram of her home where he's to do the deed. She explains, "This is the porch, the main door, that's the one we always use. The key works to either door, though."
Then she hands over a small deposit on the $50,000 she is to pay the hitman. She said she'll pay the rest once she collects the $400,000 life insurance policy.
Incredibly, her husband says he doesn't want her to be sent to jail.
