Cancer Doc Points Finger At The Other Woman In Poisoned Coffee Trial

Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo is a world-renowned cancer doctor accused of spiking her lover's coffee with poison. But in secretly-taped phone calls played in court, she blames his live-in girlfriend.

In a taped call, Dr. George Blumenschein asked, “You are telling me that somehow she masterminded all this stuff?

She said, "Well, she got what she needed. You. So it's all good!”

Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo had a love affair with Dr. George Blumenschein, who worked side by side with her on breast cancer research at a world famous Houston hospital. Prosecutors say she was obsessed with him and furious he would not leave his long time girlfriend, Evette.

In a taped call, Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo said, “I'm not a crazy person, but after all that happened you need to understand that I feel pretty bad.”

After he recovered from the poisoning, he secretly taped several phone calls with her. The jury heard her in her own words deny poisoning him.

In a taped call, Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo said, “Why would I ever hurt you? Why?”

Dr. Blumenschein replied, “Why would Evette hurt me?”

She said, “I don't know.”

Dr. Blumenschein asked, “Do you think I should leave Evette?”

“For [expletive] sakes, someone assaulted you! I would have run away a long time ago,” she said.

She wept in a call as she admitted their affair was over, saying, “She won. And you will never believe me.”

HLN host Nancy Grace has been following the trial.

Grace told INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander, "Circumstance evidence proves she is the one that gave him the beverage."

Alexander asked, "Why would this doctor throw it all away? Why would she do this?"

Grace said, "Many people have asked me, 'Why a well respected, female oncologist of her caliber would throw it all away to poison her lover, who is cheating on her?' You know what? Why ask why? It took me many years prosecuting felonies to give up asking why."

The doctor's live in lover, Evette Toney, also testified. She said she suspected her boyfriend was cheating on her but he had always denied it.

In court, Toney said, "He said it was simply a working relationship."
