John Edwards Faces Backlash after Bombshell Announcement

John Edwards is facing backlash after finally confirming that he is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby Quinn. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

John Edwards is facing shame and ridicule after finally admitting that he fathered baby Quinn during an affair with Rielle Hunter.

"Baby, What A Liar" screamed the New York Daily News headline, while the New York Post's said "I'm the Pop, Says the Weasel," calling him a "sleazy ruin of a man."

Now the former aide who once claimed to be Quinn's father to protect Edwards is speaking out. He's bashing Edwards's stated desire that he wants to be a real father to Quinn, in an exclusive interview with ABC News.

"I think those are words, empty words. If that's what he wanted to say, he should have said it two years ago," said Andrew Young, questioning the timing of Edwards's confession. Young's tell-all book The Politician, about Edwards, is being released next week.

"For it to come out a week before my book is coming out...I've expected it for a long time. I expected that they were going to do a public relations campaign to promote him, which I'm very skeptical of.  All of a sudden he's a doting, loving father of Quinn. I'm skeptical of it."

And Elizabeth Edwards doesn't have anything nice to say about Young's book: "I assume he's doing it for the money. But I don't know, you'd have to ask Andrew that," she told the Today show.

In her own book, Resilience, Elizabeth suggested without naming him directly that Young was obsessed with John Edwards: "He is too possessive. He knows no limits, no boundaries."

Meanwhile, John Edwards is in Haiti and seemingly oblivious to the uproar surrounding his long-awaited confession back home.

Andrew Young's book hits stores February 2nd.
