How Pregnant Meghan Markle Is Staying Healthy as She Travels on Flights

The mom-to-be has some helpful hacks for keeping germs at bay.

Meghan Markle's pregnancy was revealed as she landed in Australia for her first official royal tour — so how is she staying healthy while traveling around the world?

The Duchess of Sussex has previously written on her lifestyle website, The Tig, that she always wipes down the area around her seat when she travels.

"I'm no germophobe," she wrote on the now-closed website, "but when I get on a plane I always use some quick hand wipes or a travel sanitizer spray to wipe it all down: that includes the little TV, the service tray, and all the buttons around your seat."

Dr. Oz told agreed that killing bacteria is crucial to avoid getting sick.

"I think everyone ought to be traveling with a hand sanitizer — 3 oz. so you don't get in trouble with TSA," he told Inside Edition. "Get a little wipe too if you can. Clean the table tray in front of you. Make sure your armrests are clear."

Markle also dabs Neosporin on the inside of her nose with a Q-Tip to keep germs out while on a plane, advice she picked up from Leonardo DiCaprio.

Dr. Oz explained, "The air is relatively dry and because it doesn't have the same pressure, your skin will crack so Neosporin was started probably because people realized that they were getting cracks in their nose. Bacteria can get in through there. It's a problem."

Markle also prepares her body for long-haul flights with probiotics, which help digestion.

"One big surprise that people don't expect when they travel long distances is vacation constipation," Dr. Oz said.

The duchess also recommends drinking a lot of water.

"Always travel with a high strain probiotic, and hydrate like you’re dying of thirst — because even if you’re not, for your body — the thirst is real," she wrote on The Tig. "This dynamic duo of probiotics and agua will keep your gut health in check and honestly stave off jet lag if you’re globetrotting on your travels."

Kensington Palace revealed Monday that Markle is pregnant with Prince Harry's first child as the couple touched down in Sydney. The baby is due next spring.

The couple is visiting Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand for their first official royal tour since they married in May.
