Meghan Markle Closes Car Door, Internet Goes Berserk

It appeared the person who opened the door for Meghan stepped out of the way to allow her to greet her host, and as she continued talking with him, she shut the door behind her.

Though it’s an act most people do every day, the Duchess of Sussex was praised by the internet-at-large when she unexpectedly closed a car door Tuesday.

Meghan, 37, was called “humble” and “down to earth” after shutting the door of the car she rode in to attend her first solo event as a member of the royal family.

Meghan had been driven to attend the opening of an exhibition of works from the Oceania regeion at the Royal Academy of Arts.

It appeared the person who opened the door for Meghan stepped out of the way to allow her to greet her host, and as she continued talking with him, she shut the door behind her.

"Usually, if you are a member of the royal family or a dignitary, you have a member of staff to open and close a car door for you," William Hanson, an etiquette expert told Radio 1 Newsbeat.

Hanson noted the practice is for security reasons rather than "airs and graces.”

Video footage of Meghan shutting the car door has since gone viral, as social media had mixed reactions to the responses.

“No stuffy airs and graces with the Duchess, love her for it,” one commenter wrote on Twitter.

Another quipped: “Because I was so inspired by Meghan Markle, as I left the house this morning I shut my own front door."
