INSIDE EDITION has discovered important new developments following our report in May on parents who claim their kids' feet were injured on escalators while wearing Crocs. The company says it now plans to "educate" parents about how to keep kids who wear the brightly colored, odd-looking shoes safe on escalators.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received dozens of reports of such incidents over the last several years. But despite calls by parents and consumer advocates, Crocs had declined to issue safety advice about wearing their shoes on escalators. Now, INSIDE EDITION has exclusively obtained a letter from Crocs to the CPSC, in which the company promises to "add escalator safety language to its tags on shoes," which will instruct consumers on "steps they can take to prevent escalator injuries."
The company insists its shoes are safe, but says it will add the advice "to do what it can to further reduce the miniscule risk that Crocs shoes will get caught in escalators."
The company tells INSIDE EDITION they plan to have more information, including the specific language of the safety advice, and when it will be included with their shoes, soon.
