Sarah Palin's Return to the National Spotlight

Airdate: 11/18/2009
Sarah Palin's memoir is generating tons of interest, and plenty of controversy.

There are a lot of inaccuracies in this book," says Shushannah Walshe, a reporter who traveled with Palin during the election and a co-author of Sarah From Alaska, is slamming the former vice presidential candidate's memoir.

In Going Rogue Palin accuses Walshe and her co-author Scott Conroy of trying to get information from then-7-year-old Piper Palin to get information, writing that they cornered Piper while she was walking home from school and "talked to her for who knows how long about who knows what." Palin adds after that, little Piper was no longer allowed to walk home from school by herself.

"She accuses you of cornering her daughter Piper, did that happen?"
"No, it's not true. As you know a journalist with any ounce of integrity would never interview a 7-year-old and we did not."

Palin is also coming under fire for some harsh language she used to bash President Obama's economic policies

"Those are backasswards ways of trying to fix the economy," Palin said
"You do have a way with words," observed Barbara Walters.
"I call it like I see it," said Palin.

The verbal attack came during her interview with Barbara Walters, during which Palin didn't hold back with her choice of words. "There's so much bull crap out there," she told Walters.

Meanwhile, the debate rages on about that Newsweek magazine cover using a  photo of Palin wearing workout shorts originally taken for a spread in Runner's World magazine.

"I think that that’s, for me personally, it's a wee bit degrading," Palin told Walters of the cover shot.

"Oh I don't think so, look, what we try to do every week is to pick most interesting picture, evocative picture, to illustrate the themes of the cover story," said Dan Klaidman, Newsweek's managing editor, defending the photo choice on the Today show.  "There are a lot of people would see that image and say, 'That's Sarah Palin, that's why she connects with people, there's that authenticity.' "

Robust sales of the Palin book have prompted the publisher to print another 100,000 copies.
