Chris Brown's Video Apology

Airdate: 7/21/2009
"I thought it was time that you heard directly from me that I am sorry," Chris Brown told the public in a video apology posted on his official website.

Brown's apology video is getting mixed reactions from the media.

"I am not going to sit here and make excuses.  What I did was unacceptable.  100 per cent."

"It sounds sincere in that many, many people who do this say, 'I'm sorry, but, you provoked me...you did this,' they're defensive in some way.  And he's not defensive," said Dr. Gail Saltz on the Today show.

"Since February, my attorney advised me not to speak out."

Actress Tori Spelling weighed in, saying, "I'm sure all his fans are thinking, 'Why hasn't he apologized?  What's the reason?'  Now [we know] it's because the lawyers said to keep quiet."

Today's Kathie Lee Gifford said, "The other thing he did that I think is very, very rare in today's world is he said, 'Yes I did it.'  You know what, God Bless him.  Everybody deserves a second chance in life."

"In so many moms' minds he's the new Ike Turner.  And he's going to have to get rid of that perception," said Rolling Stone writer TourĂ©.

Brown pled guilty to felony assault in June.  In August, he will officially be sentenced to 180 days of community service and five years probation.  The maximum sentence he could have received was four years in prison.
