Living Next Door to the Obamas

Airdate: 9/17/2009
It could be the most unique house on the market today.  Whoever buys this 18-room, 6,000-square-foot home will have the First Family as next-door neighbors!

The house sits right next to the home that President Obama owns in Chicago.

Despite the Obamas' temporary move to the White House, Chicago cops and the Secret Service still keep around-the-clock guard on the block.

In fact, the Secret Service asked INSIDE EDITION not to show the Obamas' home.

Realtor Matt Garrison says the security is a big selling point.  "It's the world's ultimate gated community.  It's the best security the U.S. government can buy," says Garrison

The house that's for sale is in Chicago's ritzy Hyde Park neighborhood.  The highlight of the ground floor is a beautiful stained-glass staircase window.

There's a large dining room, a study with a huge light-catching mirror, and loads of period details.

And Obama once used the century-old home, with its cozy fireplace, to shoot a Christmas message back in 2007, when he was just a White House hopeful.

Owners Bill and Jacky Grimshaw have been friendly with the Obama family since the President-to-be moved in in 2005.

"We'd talk about politics a lot of times, sports, he's a White Sox fan, I'm a White Sox fan," Jacky says.

Dog-loving daughters Sasha and Malia liked to pet Rosy, a boxer, through the Grimshaws' fence.

"I think that engendered this idea of 'Can we have a dog, Daddy, can we have a dog?' from little ol' Rosy in the backyard," says Jacky.

The Grimshaws' house does need some fixing up, but even so, it is thought it could sell for $3 million or more because of the so-called "Obama factor."

So what are the Obamas like as neighbors? They couldn't be nicer, the Grimshaws say.

But Bill did let INSIDE EDITION in on one little secret.

"Maybe I shouldn't say this but I'll say it anyway...he's a little hen-pecked...they shove him around, the little girls, Michelle's mom"
