INSIDE EDITION shares some ways to stay safe in the kitchen.
Kitchen Scenario One: Cooking when suddenly the pan catches on fire
The quickest way to put the fire out is simply to put a lid on it.
Don't have a pot cover? Try using a baking soda to douse the flames.
Remember do not try to pick up the pan.
Kitchen Scenario Two: Cutting off the tip of a finger
Take the finger, put it in a Ziploc® bag with some cool water and then put the bag on ice. Experts say do not put the finger directly on ice because it can actually damage tissue. As long as you are able to get to a hospital within a few hours, the tip can be reattached.
Kitchen Scenario Three: Home alone and choking
Go straight to the edge of a counter; you can give yourself the Heimlich Maneuver. In the area just below the chest, above the stomach, apply some direct pressure.
Kitchen Scenario Four: Dinner party guest food allergy
Have Benadryl® on hand to give the guest. Ideally if you have a liquid version of the tablets, give the guest 50mg.
