Seinfeld Jokes of Car Crash

Airdate : 4/8/2008

"I'm a good driver. I just, you know, had a little bad luck."

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld spoke out for the first time about his terrifying car wreck   on Long Island, New York.

"This for me was really, actually, between you and I…just a lot of fun."

A big baseball fan, Seinfeld called into New York Sports Radio station WFAN to talk about how he cheated death when he says the brakes failed on his vintage 1967 Fiat convertible.

"I send the car to the mechanic. I said, 'Tell him the brakes don't work,' and he sends the car back and doesn't tell me, 'We didn't fix the brakes.'"

When asked if the brakes in the classic car were working at all, Seinfeld responded, "a tiny bit."

Police say the accident could have been much worse had it not been for the quick thinking of the comedian, who will be turning 54 on April 29th. Seinfeld swerved and flipped his car to avoid oncoming highway traffic, but insists he's no hero.

"Well, I'm not really comfortable with the "H" word. I did what anyone would have done in the same situation to avoid anybody getting hurt."

But always the funnyman, Seinfeld couldn't help but joke about the accident.

The radio host asked, "Did it happen during the daytime or during the evening?" Ever the comedian, Seinfeld playfully joked, "I don't remember. I was drunk."
