In day two of INSIDE EDITION's bombshell interview with country music star Mindy McCready, the singer admits that she was in love with Roger Clemens:
"Yes. I loved Roger very much. I have no problem saying that," she told INSIDE EDITION's Rita Cosby.
It's the interview that's making headlines across America. McCready spoke publicly for the first time about the affair she says she had with married baseball great Roger Clemens.
"It was terrible. There's a reason why you're not supposed to be with married people, it's because they can never belong to you, they belong to someone else," says McCready.
After INSIDE EDITION's story aired, Clemens was quick to deny that there was an affair.
The New York Daily News quotes him as saying: "I repeat once again, it simply did not happen. That is all I am going to say about the matter."
But McCready stands by her story.
Mindy told INSIDE EDITION that she met Clemens when she was 16-years-old, at a karaoke bar: "I was singing and Roger and I met. Introduced himself. I had no idea who he was."
The two quickly struck up a friendship, which she says didn't become physical until several years later.
"When did you find out he was married?" asks Cosby.
"I don't remember the exact time that I found out that he was, I remember it being something shocking to me," McCready says.
But she says she continued having an affair with Roger Clemens for nearly a decade:
"We spoke every day. I was busy being a country music singer and he was busy being a baseball player and those schedules are crazy for anybody so, you know, we saw each other as much as we could."
She says she feels terrible about what Roger's wife, Debbie Clemens, went through. She stood by her embattled husband as he denied allegations that he used steroids, at a hearing on Capitol Hill.
"If I was Roger's wife, I would be devastated. It would absolutely crush me," says McCready.
McCready says that Clemens did not take it well when she broke off the affair. "It's really hard for me to talk about it. I was absolutely, totally, heartbroken. I missed him very much when it was over."
Now, the country music star is working on a comeback and wowed fans with her powerful voice at a Nashville Broncs basketball game in her hometown. She says she's finally at peace, and hopes to find redemption.
"I'm responsible for my own actions and I certainly did not have to be in a relationship with a married man and I'm very ashamed of that. I should have thought of Debbie Clemens more than I thought of myself," McCready says.
