Big Names in Hollywood Honored with Globe Nominations

Airdate : 12/11/2008

The world's most glamorous celebrities are nominated for Golden Globes, setting up an awards show that could be the most star-studded event in years.

There were some surprised laughs in the crowd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel early Thursday morning when Tom Cruise's portrayal of a foul-mouthed movie producer in Tropic Thunder earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

INSIDE EDITION spoke with Golden Globe nominations co-presenter Brooke Shields about the big announcement. "I think it's ironic, all the work that he does, that that's what he got nominated for. I think he's probably chuckling about it too in a way."

Brad and Angelina can share in the celebration, both received Best Acting nods for their work in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Changeling respectively.

Competing with Jolie for Best Actress is Kristin Scott Thomas, who spoke entirely in French in the acclaimed movie I've Loved You So Long. Speaking with INSIDE EDITION, the nominated actress exclaimed, "It is so exciting, and so thrilling for this film. It's so great."

Best Supporting Actress nominee Taraji P. Henson was virtually unknown before her breakout role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The star says she thinks she's still in shock over the honor.

This year's television nominations include Blair Underwood for In Treatment. INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret joined Underwood in a toast in honor of his nomination. When asked if he was surprised by the announcement, the humble star said, "I was shocked, more than surprised."

Neil Patrick Harris's nomination for How I Met Your Mother inspired a celebration on the set. "It's going to be a big, exciting show this year with all the famous people there. That's fun. Stumbling over to the Pitt-Jolie table and getting escorted away by their bodyguards. It'll be a good time," joked the actor.

There was a sad reminder of a life lost in the Best Supporting Actor category as Heath Ledger's name was announced for his role as the Joker in the summer's big screen blockbuster The Dark Knight.

Ledger's nomination serves as a final tribute for an actor who was clearly respected by his peers.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Jorge Camara said of Ledger's performance, "He did a wonderful job in that picture."

One of the actor's friends, a Globes nomination presenter, Terrence Howard talked about the late star. "Heath is a friend of mine. I think he will win that category. I think he will also win the Oscar®."
