Kanye West Steals the Spotlight at the VMAs

Airdate : 9/14/2009
Kanye West is apologizing for his rude behavior during MTV's Video Music Awards.

Kanye posted this on his blog: "I'm sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift...I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment."

INSIDE EDITION found Kanye at JFK airport leaving New York the morning after the show, but he wouldn't say a word.

As Taylor Swift went on stage to accept her award for Best Female Video, Kanye appeared on stage, grabbed the microphone from Taylor, and proclaimed "Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!"

Taylor appeared shocked and Beyonce looked stunned as well; she shook her head and mouthed "Oh, Kanye."

Moments later, MTV executives asked Kanye to leave Radio City Music Hall.

Could he have been drunk?  Cameras caught Kanye taking swigs from a bottle of cognac on the red carpet just before the show.  He later admitted he had a "little sippy-sippy."

Later in the Sunday night broadcast, Beyonce won the big award for Best Video of the Year, and she made sure Taylor Swift had her moment.

Backstage, Taylor praised Beyonce for giving her time to speak.  "They told me to stand by the side of the stage and I didn't really know what was going to go down.  I thought it was just so wonderful and gracious of [Beyonce] to do what she's always done, she's always just been a great person before anything else."

Some people are wondering whether Kanye West's rant was actually planned out   beforehand. Kanye's done this sort of attention getting stunt before --  and keep in mind he's one of the first guests tonight when jay leno launches his new show.

The Kanye stage crash overshadowed what was supposed to be the highlight of the big show, the tribute to the late Michael Jackson, opening with Madonna's heartfelt words.

"Sometimes we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them."

Janet Jackson brought the house down with her dancing duet with her beloved brother on the monitor behind her.

MTV was first to air the new movie trailer of This Is It, a compilation of Michael's never-before-seen rehearsal footage.
