Serena Williams Back on the Court at U.S. Open

Airdate : 9/14/2009
Serena Williams's explosive forehand was back on court at the U.S. Open Monday, as she won the double's final with big sister Venus.  But it was her explosive temper that was still on everyone's mind.

Just before Serena took the court, she finally said she was sorry, posting this on her web site:

Earlier in the day, Serena apologized on her web site: "I want to sincerely apologize...I handled myself inappropriately and it's not the way to act -- win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner."

Officials are considering slamming Serena with a fine totaling $250,000.  She may also face suspension from next year's Open.

INSIDE EDITION is learning more about the tennis star's match point meltdown after a line judge called a controversial foot fault.

"I swear to God I'll ---- take this ball and shove it down your ---- throat," Serena was caught on camera saying to the judge.

Tennis officials gathered courtside to figure out what to do.

Afterwards, Serena debated exactly what had been said, yelling, "I didn't say that I would kill you, are you serious!?"

INSIDE EDITION spoke to ESPN commentator and former player, Mary Joe Fernandez.

"You can see people that are that driven and have that personality can get very emotional, as an athlete though you have to try to keep your emotions in check.  And at that moment it looked like she was going to for a minute and then she just couldn't do it," Fernandez said.

Meanwhile, the linesperson who was the target of Serena's wrath is reportedly "very shaken" after the incident.  One official described her as "so upset that she looked like she [was] going to faint."
