Remembering The Stars We Lost in 2017

We said farewell to celebrities including Tom Petty, Mary Tyler Moore and Glen Campbell.

In 2017, we said farewell to many icons of film, television, and music.

In January, TV's Mary Tyler Moore passed away in Greenwich, Conn., at age 80 from cardiopulmonary arrest due to pneumonia. 

Television's original Batman, Adam West, died in June at 88 following a battle with leukemia. 

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner died at 91 inside his L.A. home in September. He was buried at Westwood Memorial Park in a crypt next to Marilyn Monroe. 

In August, comedy titan Jerry Lewis passed away inside his Las Vegas home at 91 due to cardiac disease.

We also lost comic Don Rickles, who was 90 when he passed away due to kidney failure in April.

Terminator and True Lies actor Bill Paxton was just 61 when he died due to complications from heart surgery in February.

In May, James Bond star Sir Roger Moore, a humanitarian and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, passed away at 89 in Switzerland due to liver and lung cancer. 

Troubled actress Erin Moran also passed away young at 56 inside her Indiana home, where she was found unresponsive. A coroner's report indicated the cause of death to be complications of stage four squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. 

Beloved Touched by an Angel actress and singer Della Reese passed away in November at her Los Angeles home, aged 86. While no cause of death was given, she did suffer from type 2 diabetes.

Emmy Award-winning actor Robert Guillaume passed away at 89 in L.A. due to prostate cancer. 

A founding father of rock and roll, Chuck Berry, was found unresponsive in his Missouri home in April. The 90-year-old died of cardiac arrest. The Rolling Stones, who were heavily influenced by Berry, sent a guitar-shaped flower arrangement to his funeral.

In October, jazz icon and rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino passed away of natural causes at 89 at his Harvey, La., home. 

Former Partridge Family member and teen heartthrob David Cassidy died at 67 of organ failure in November. 

At 81, country music legend Glen Campbell passed away in August after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 

In October, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Tom Petty, 66, passed away from cardiac arrest in Santa Monica, Calif. 

Charles Bradley, the singer known as "The Screaming Eagle of Soul," passed away in September after a battle with cancer. He was 68.

Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell died of suicide at age 52 in May. The singer was found dead in his Detroit hotel room hours after finishing a concert with Soundgarden. 

Months later, Cornell’s close friend and Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington died of suicide inside his California home. He was 41.
