In honor of International Women's Day, NBA All-Star Steph Curry debuted his newest sneaker, designed with a 9-year-old girl who inspired him to create athletic shoes for females.

The Under Armour Icon Curry 6 is resplendent in shades of purple, with inspiring insole messages such as "Be Bold," "Girl Power" and Rock the Currys."

Riley Morrison, the girl who challenged the Golden State Warrior to create his namesake trainers for girls and not just boys, designed the sock liner, Under Armour said on its website.

The girl captured the nation's, and Curry's, interest when she wrote a letter last year telling the basketball superstar that his popular sports sneakers weren't available in girls' sizes. "I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock the Curry 5s too," the California student wrote.

Curry, who has two daughters, took notice and wrote her back, promising to rectify the situation and advising her to be in Oakland on International Women's Day.

Riley got a big surprise when she walked into a pop-up shop in Oakland to find Curry, who presented her with her own pair of the new sneaker line. "It's been amazing. It's a really special experience. I never imagined this would happen," said the grinning girl. "I'm really happy I wrote that letter."

Under Armour said a portion of sales for the $130 sneakers would go toward college scholarships for Bay Area teens.
