EXCLUSIVE: Travoltas' Ambulance Driver Talks of Tragedy

ORIGINAL AIRDATE: 1/5/2009

Tarino Lightbourn talked exclusively with INSIDE EDITION about the last moments of Jett Travolta's young life.

"He really loved his son," the first paramedic on the scene tells INSIDE EDITION.

Ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourn described the heartbreaking drama as John Travolta and Kelly Preston's son Jett was rushed to a Bahamas hospital on Friday, January 2nd.  "John himself, from what I saw, he was participating in CPR on the way to the hospital."

Lightbourn's EMT unit responded to the emergency call from the Travolta estate at 10:00 a.m.

Ultimately, a devastated Travolta would stand watching as the EMT crew tried desperately to revive his 16-year-old son.

"He was crying. His eyes were red," says Lightbourn. "I remember him looking up at the ceiling and saying, 'God, please help me.'"

Both Travolta and Preston climbed into the ambulance to be with their boy. Lightbourn says, "Kelly road up front with me, and she was asking me, 'Is he going to be okay?'" And I said, 'Well, he's working on him. They are doing their best.'"

But, it was too late. Jett was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"John himself went in, went behind the curtain with tears in his eyes...I can see the sorrow, I can see the love in his eyes for his son."

Then, the EMT witnessed the most intimate and saddest moment of all as Travolta bid his son goodbye. "When he was hugging his son, he said, 'I'm sorry, Jett.'...I think he meant, 'I'm sorry, Jett. I did all I could do.'"
