“I hope my dad is helping Farrah for the right reasons or is he just here for a meal ticket?”
There were harsh words for Ryan O’Neal from his son Griffin who has been feuding with his famous father for years.
“If he's somewhat human, he's got to be a little scared,” says Griffin. The 44-year-old says he loves Farrah and is heartbroken as he follows her epic struggle with cancer.
He was just 13 when Farrah came into his life.
“We had a great relationship from the beginning. We were always very close,” he says.
He says if Farrah loses her battle, he is determined to go to her funeral no matter what. “I will and I’ll bring a couple of big guys with me too just in case because I don't trust my dad right now.”
Griffin hasn't spoken to his father since a notorious incident in 2007 when Ryan O’Neal allegedly fired a gun during an argument inside Ryan’s house in Malibu at a 60th birthday party for Farrah. Criminal charges were dropped.
Speaking about the incident, Griffin says, “He shot the gun…at me!” when asked whether he believed his father was actually shooting at him, Griffin says, “I don't know. He was a bad shot if he was because he missed.”
But, conflict between the father and son dates back much further. During the 20th anniversary of Ryan and Tatum O'Neal's movie Paper moon in 2003, a water bottle struck Ryan in the head. The bottle is said to have been thrown by Griffin.
In another interview, Griffin says that he “adores” his dad. But then goes on to say, “Sometimes it’s hard, but yeah, I like him too.”
Griffin is married to his father's former assistant, Joanna. They have a beautiful son, Audy, who is just 2-years-old.
But neither Ryan O’Neal nor Farrah has ever met the boy.
“I still hope that [Audy] would be able to meet [Farrah]. I’ve sent her some pictures on the phone and I know she got them but it's sad.”
He says despite all the conflict between them he hopes he can one day reconcile with his father. “The bombastic fool has some problems and he needs to seek some help about that.”
Farrah's battle with cancer has not reunited this tragically fractured family.
Griffin shared what could be a final message for Farrah with INSIDE EDITION. “I'd want to say, ‘Stay strong, you know, stay strong and fight. Fight as much as you can.’”
