Given the tough economy, there had been some talk that stars would tone down their red carpet look, but clearly fashion reigned supreme.
"Hollywood glamour is what we turn to when times are tough. I think they showed it right tonight, those stars came out [with] beautiful jewelry, beautiful hair, stunning gowns, and I was happy to see that," said TV Guide host Lisa Rinna.
It was a night of big fashion hits and big misses at the Golden Globes.
Jennifer Lopez looked stunning from the front in her plunging v-neck gown by Marchesa, but when the new mom of twins turned to the side, the photos showed some unflattering love handles.
Transformers star Megan Fox was a fox in a gold Ralph Lauren dress, and Angelina Jolie led the stream of sequined ladies with her silver gown by Atelier Versace. Others fashion statements were defined by sexy form-fitting looks; Eva Longoria Parker, one of the best dressed of the night, looked red-hot in her red mermaid gown by Reem Acra.
But the red carpet also featured a remarkable lack of color, with many stars choosing white or muted shades of cream. Of course, they still looked white-hot thanks to unique details and accessories.
Eva Mendes paired a bold turquoise and diamond necklace with her white Christian Dior gown, and gold embroidery spiced up Miley Cyrus's white Marchesa dress.
Actresses like Amy Adams and Evan Rachel Wood showed up looking stunning in "anything but basic" black.
The Dark Knight star Maggie Gyllenhaal made another unusual fashion choice. Her dress had bold print and a poofy shoulder, but she still glowed. Meanwhile, Glenn Close looked frumpy in a gold pantsuit, and Marisa Tomei arrived looking more like a pirate than a Golden Globe nominee.
Celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Jane Krakowski, and Cameron Diaz highlighted their shoulders with one-shouldered and asymmetrical gowns.
"Drew Barrymore made quite a statement in that blue Christian Dior, she had Marilyn Monroe hair, blue eye shadow, and pink lips," commented Lisa Rinna.
In comparison to those perfectly put-together screen goddesses, throwing on a tux may seem easy. But Ricky Gervais, creator of TV's The Office, revealed his red carpet jitters.
"So walking the carpet, Golden Globes, what is it like?" asked INSIDE EDITION's Deborah Norville.
"It's hot and sweaty, and I look fat," lamented the funnyman.
And Tracy Morgan shared the secret to his elegant red carpet style. "My sister dressed me," he admitted.
The brightest stars were out and shining on Hollywood's golden night.
