Watch A NYPD Officer Verbally Assault An Uber Driver

"Do you understand me?"

Disturbing video is being played around the world today.

An NYPD Detective was caught on camera berating and bullying an Uber driver, even mocking his accent.

In video of the incident, the detective said: “Do you understand me? Do you understand me?”
Uber driver: “Yes, I understand.”
Detective: “I don't know what [expletive] planet you think you're on right now.”
Uber driver: “I’m not planning sir, I’m right here.”
Detective: “Planning? I said 'Planet!”
Uber driver: “Planet, yeah, I’m not any planet.”

The detective yells, screams, and even slams the uber driver's car door in his profanity laced rant.  A passenger in the back seat recorded the tirade and posted the three-and-a-half minute video on YouTube.

In the video, the detective said: “Let me tell you something, the next time you again.”
Driver: “Okay.”
Detective: “Okay, what?! You don't let me [expletive] finish! Stop interrupting me! Pull over five [expletive] feet! Pull over!”

The incident happened on the busy Westside Highway in Lower Manhattan. The detective was double parked, and reportedly didn't have his blinkers or hazard lights on. That's when the Uber driver drove around the car and gestured to the detective that he should use his blinker.  The passenger in the back seat describes the gesture as "calm" and "non-offensive."

But something set the detective off.

In the video, the driver said: “I apologize. I'm sorry.”
Detective: “Who do you think you're talking to here?”
Driver: “I said, ‘I’m not saying nothing.’”
Detective: “Every time I open my mouth you have something to say! I don't care what you have to say, do you understand that? People are allowed to park their cars on the side of the street without your interference and your opinion about what's going on.  Especially when the person you’re doing it to are the police!”
Driver: “I apologize.”

The detective has been identified as Patrick Cherry, who is assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force with a top secret security clearance. He was driving an unmarked car and put on his flashing lights when he pulled over the Uber driver.

The detective told the driver, “The only reason you're not in handcuffs and going to jail and getting summons in the precinct is because I have things to do. That's the only reason that's not happening. Because this isn't important enough for me. You're not important enough. Don't ever do that again.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “There's no place for any public servant to use discriminatory or negative language.”

The Uber driver has filed a complaint with the police and the incident is being investigated by the internal affairs bureau. The passenger was identified as Sanjay Seth, a financial analyst.

Seth said, “That's crazy, that's really inappropriate. It's not your fault.  It's not your fault.  I think he's just on a power trip right now.”

Uber released a statement: “The behavior in the video is wrong and unacceptable and we appreciate the NYPD investigating the incident.”
