Ted Cruz Slams Washington Post for Depicting His Daughters as Monkeys in Cartoon

Ted Cruz is blasting the Washington Post after a new cartoon emerged poking fun at his daughters.

The Washington Post has pulled a political cartoon that depicted Senator Ted Cruz as Santa with an organ grinder and his two young daughters as dancing monkeys.

Cruz lashed out on Twitter:

Classy. @washingtonpost makes fun of my girls. Stick w/ attacking me--Caroline & Catherine are out of your league. https://t.co/N61ys6z8w1

The cartoonist, Ann Telnaes, said she included seven-year-old Caroline Cruz and four-year-old Catherine in the cartoon after they were featured in their dad's Christmas campaign ad. The Washington Post cartoonist tweeted:

Ted Cruz has put his children in a political ad- don't start screaming when editorial cartoonists draw them as well. https://t.co/7hafBacOiK

But the newspaper pulled the cartoon off its website, saying its policy is "to leave children out of it."

Cruz's Republican opponents jumped to his defense after the cartoon emerged.

The @washingtonpost, which is the lobbyist (power) for not imposing taxes on #Amazon, today did a nasty cartoon attacking @tedcruz kids. Bad

Wash Post cartoon featuring @tedcruz’s children is disgusting. The Post saying the kids are “fair game” is even worse.

Cruz later thanked Rubio on Twitter:

Thank you, @marcorubio Appreciate the kind support. We're both Dads of young kids, and it's hard enough on them. https://t.co/8bBtHgxv3M
