Cale Hartmann wrote: "I was incredibly hurt to see my ex-girlfriend had made public accusations across all of her social media platforms that tell a story so far beyond the truth.

"The severity of her accusations is false and extremely harmful. She is being praised and lauded to no end while people take joy in destroying me as the new villain of the week."

The startling photos showed bruises across Stelling's legs.

“When I broke up with my ex this Summer, it wasn't because I didn't love him, it was because of this,” she wrote on Instagram as she shared the images.

She added: "I didn't want to hurt him, start a war, press charges... I don't want revenge... I won't keep it a secret any longer so that a future woman has a fair chance of avoiding it."

Courtney Pauroso, who is also a comedian, said on the Emergency Podcast that she used to date someone who also abused her and was inspired to come out following Stelling's startling allegation.

"It happened to me too,” she said. “When I was trying to break up with this person, on September 4th, 2014, he raped me."

Pauroso says she never called police and did not name her assailant.
