Figure Skater Receives Death Threats For Wearing Fur

American figure skater Johnny Weir fears for his life after he says he received death threats for wearing one of his costumes. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
He's the Olympic figure skater in fear for his life.
Flamboyant American skater Johnny Weir says he's terrified, and it's because he wore an outfit with a white fox fur accent down the arms and on the shoulder.
Weir is famous for his wild outfits on-and-off the ice. His over-the-top personality has turned him into a superstar in the skating world. He's also starring in his own series airing Monday nights on the Sundance Channel.
Weir says death threats started pouring in from anti-fur activists after he wore the costume at the nationals last month.
He's abandoned plans to wear the outfit at the Olympics and now says he's afraid to leave the Olympic Village.
"It's a very scary thing," he told reporters over the weekend. "There have been threats against me. I didn't want to get hurt."
Inside Edition asked Ashley Byrne, a representative of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals if she believed Weir should fear for his life.
“Absolutely not. All we did was write him a very polite letter and we were happy that he responded to our very polite letter by choosing to leave the real fur off of his costume,” she said.
