Boy Drowns in Swimming Pool After Dad Allegedly Passes Out While Drunk: Police
He was found unresponsive in a pool less than a mile from his home.
A Pennsylvania dad is facing manslaughter and other charges after his son drowned in a pool while police said the father was drunk and unconscious.
David Gammon, 35, had reportedly been drinking a Four Loko when he brought his two sons outside of his home on Sept. 10.
Police said when Gammon passed out while outside, the two boys, Anakin Gammon, 2, and his 5-year-old brother, who has special needs, wandered off.
A neighbor reportedly found Gammon on his lawn, prompting a search for the boys. Police later found Anakin unresponsive in a pool, less than a mile away from the home.
“There is probable cause that David Gammon was reckless in consuming enough alcohol, while caring for his children, that he lost consciousness allowing them to wander from the property,” police said in a complaint.
Paramedics tried to revive the toddler but he later died at the hospital, reports said.
Gammon allegedly told police he was sipping on the alcoholic beverage when he took the boys outside to play and he dozed off, reports said. Police estimated the dad was unconscious for at least 30 minutes, WKBN reported.
Gammon’s 5-year-old son was found alive a few blocks away from the family home.
Gammon was charged on Tuesday with one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of endangering the welfare of children.
He is being held on $150,000 bond.
