It's the daily routine we all do: brushing your teeth, washing your face, and combing your hair. But when it comes daily rituals, there are five things many of us do wrong.

Jill Percia is a beauty editor at Women's Health magazine. Percia told INSIDE EDITION, "Only 1 in 10 people brush in a way that can help prevent tooth decay."

Percia said most people squirt a big gob of toothpaste on a brush and go at it. But our expert said it's better to use a small amount of toothpaste, then brush the upper teeth in a circular motion. Next, use a second dab for the lowers and brush for a full two minutes.

Percia continued, "You want to make sure to go for a soft or medium bristle brush to really protect gums and enamel."

And for the second tip: how to wash your face.

INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander provided some newly learned advice as she watched her face, saying, "Always wash your hands first. You don't want nasty bacteria from your hands getting on your face. Next, take a small amount of cleanser, mix it with water, work into a lather, and then begin applying it to your face. Begin rubbing on your forehead in a circular motion, then come down over the cheeks to your nose, and then to your chin."

Then, splash your face with cold water.

"Cool water not only feels good on the face, but it can help close the pores," said Percia.

And remember when drying your face, don't rub, but pat your face gently until dry.

Our third tip: if you are shaving in an upward motion in the shower, then you're doing it wrong.
The best time to shave is after you take a shower when hair is moist.

Percia commented, "You want to make sure you have a really good lather and that you apply it to areas so that no skin peaks through."

Percia said to shave in a downward motion following the direction of the hair. And guys, the same goes for you.

According to Jill," It actually prevent nicks, cuts and ingrown hair."

In regards to brushing your hair, Percia said if you are only brushing the ends, then you are doing it wrong.

"A lot of women are only brushing the ends of their hair because they think that excess brushing can really lead to breakage," added Percia.

Our expert said you should brush your hair from the top all the way to the tips because your scalp produces natural oils that promote healthy hair and give it shine.

And lastly, our fifth tip is about taking off hard-to-remove nail polish. The right way to do this is to soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover, then place it on the nail and wrap each fingertip with foil to keep the cotton ball in place. In the end, your nails will end up perfectly clean.

There you have it—five ways to make sure your daily ritual is done just right.
