2009 Celebrity Drama

INSIDE EDITION looks back at the celebrity drama of 2009.

There's at least one person who is glad 2009 is coming to an end. It's the year Tiger Woods lost his squeaky clean image. As a long list of alleged mistresses came forward, from porn stars, to models, to pancake waitresses, it seemed all of America was asking...how could he?

But Woods isn't the only celebrity who had a rough year.

David Letterman didn't have the best year; an alleged extortion plot led him to make this awkward admission live on national television: "I have slept with women who worked on this show."

And that wasn't the only weird moment for Letterman. Actor Joaquin Phoenix seemingly imploded during a bizarre interview on The Late Show.

Letterman: "Do you have any funny stories to tell us?"

Phoenix: "No."

The scruffy and bearded Phoenix couldn't even remember much about the movie he was promoting.

Letterman: "What a tremendous film. You and who else is in it? What is her name?"

Phoenix: "Beautiful lovely."

The train wreck interview left Letterman and his audience wondering what had happened. "Well I'm so sorry you couldn't be here tonight," the comedian quipped.

And the awkward moments continued as Kanye West stormed the stage at MTV's Video Music Awards and cut off singer Taylor Swift's Best Female Video acceptance speech, leaving the teen speechless. "Beyonce had the best music video of all time!" he shouted.

2009 had its high moments...It was the year an unknown spinster stepped onstage and wowed the world. But overnight fame turned out to be almost more than Susan Boyle could handle. Before the show was over, she'd suffered more than one meltdown.

Boyle wasn't the only talent who skyrocketed to fame in 2009. After coming in second on American Idol, Adam Lambert stunned the country with a sexually-charged performance at the American Music Awards.

After leading men around on a leash and a few sexually explicit moves, a flood of viewers called ABC to complain. ABC's Good Morning America cancelled Lambert's scheduled appearance the next day.

2009 was also the year a shocking photo of a bruised and battered Rihanna surfaced. It was the result of an ugly attack by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown. Brown pled guilty to felony assault and was ordered to stay away from his former girlfriend.

And finally, the celebrity drama 2009 may best be remembered for is the public disintegration of Jon and Kate Gosselin's marriage. America followed the blow-by-blow on national television, as the reality TV couple with eight kids slugged it out in divorce court. There's no doubt they'll be happy to ring in a new year and a fresh start!
