'70s Heartthrob Lance Kerwin Down and Out

Former teen heartthrob Lance Kerwin is down and out, and once was so broke he and his family had to go on food stamps. Kerwin shares the story of his financial troubles with INSIDE EDITION.

Millions of girls all over the country once swooned over Lance Kerwin. The young star of James at 15 was one of the biggest teen heartthrobs of the 1970s.

But you wouldn't recognize Lance Kerwin today. He fell on hard times and was so broke he and his family even had to go on food stamps.

It was huge fall for the star of a network TV show. When he filmed the series, he lived in a waterfront penthouse apartment in Marina del Ray, California.

So what happened? Like many young actors he turned to drugs. The acting roles dried up and so did the money.

"Does that Lance seem like a different person to you?" INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret asked him.

"No. No, I keep wondering when I'm going to grow up," said Kerwin.
