Alec Baldwin, Mayor of New York City?

Is 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin headed for Gracie Mansion? Just a week after conservative Republican Kelsey Grammer mentioned he was interested in running for mayor of New York City, the liberal Democrat says he too would like the job. INSIDE EDI

Alec Baldwin says he's seriously thinking about running for mayor of New York City!

The 30 Rock star says he plans to go back to school and study for a master's degree in Government to learn how to be a mayor.

Baldwin tells The New York Times he thinks people will forgive him for his past controversies:

"What I do for a living has provided people with an almost bottomless container of video clips of me doing the most asinine things [including] the tape of me and my daughter."

That was a reference to the notorious answering machine message Baldwin left for his then 11-year-old daughter Ireland four years ago.

"You are a rude, thoughtless, little pig!"

Father and daughter have since reconciled. The news of Baldwin's interest in running for political office comes on the heels of Kelsey Grammer saying he's also pondering a run for mayor of New York.

Grammer is a conservative Republican while Baldwin is a liberal Democrat.

Baldwin told the New York Times: "I am someone who is fully prepared for the fact that I could go into this and do it and completely have my [---] kicked."

If Baldwin does decide to run, it won't be in 2013. The actor is still under contract with 30 Rock.
