INSIDE EDITION reports on fashion trends and what the biggest stars wore on the red carpet at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards®.
Just as important as who won what at the Academy Awards® is who wore what on the red carpet! Hollywood's leading ladies lit up the red carpet in glamorous glittering gowns; it was a sea of blues and shimmering metallic.
Golden girl Sandra Bullock glowed in a slim-fitting Marchesa gown with flower embroidered bodice.
"The dream team put this together. It will all come off in a pile in a shower at the end of the night, but I'm going to work it tonight," she told INSIDE EDITION.
Blonde beauties Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta and Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent showed off their shoulders in stunning strapless gowns.
INSIDE EDITION spoke with supermodel Kathy Ireland on the red carpet for her take on the night's red carpet fashions: "Everyone looks fantastic. Sandra Bullock looks like an Oscar [statue], she looked amazing," said Ireland.
Teen queen Miley Cyrus shimmered in a very mature champagne beaded dress, but she had a little trouble walking down the red carpet. INSIDE EDITION cameras captured her fixing her sky-high heels. It turns out she's nursing an existing stress fracture in her foot.
"I just look at all the women with my tongue hanging out, they all look so spectacularly beautiful," Best Actress nominee Helen Mirren told INSIDE EDITION. Mirren herself was a stunner in a sparkling silver dress by Badgley Mischka.
The stars of Precious led the brigade of beautiful blue, from Gabourey Sidibe in a sapphire custom-made Marchesa to Best Supporting Actress winner Mo'Nique in a bright cobalt gown.
But some fashion critics weren't too impressed with Mariah Carey's daringly low-cut navy Valentino gown.
"Mariah, Mariah, Mariah, Mariah's on fire and looks like a hot mess! Valentino...how can you go wrong in Valentino? [Her dresses are] always cut too low and squeezed too tight, slit too high...it just looked trashy," said celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch.
Twilight's Kristen Stewart also jumped on the blue bandwagon with a midnight blue Monique Lhuillier, as did nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal, who looked gorgeous in a hand-painted print Dries van Noten.
Pretty pale pinks and purples also popped up everywhere! Jennifer Lopez looked picture-perfect in her structured iridescent Armani Privé gown.
"Jennifer Lopez is back in the number one position as one of the best dressed of the night," declared Bloch.
Demi Moore chose a layered blush Atelier Versace and Queen Latifah looked lovely in a one-shoulder lilac dress with beaded waist.
But Charlize Theron missed the mark with her purple satin Dior dress. One critic wrote that she looked like she was wearing cinnamon buns.
"[It was] 'Notice me, notice me, notice me!' It was very distracting," Bloch told INSIDE EDITION.
Meryl Streep looked amazing in a wonderful Chris March white wrap dress, and Tina Fey in Michael Kors was anything but basic in shiny black.
Oscar® newcomer Carry Mulligan, nominated for her performance in An Education, was covered in hardware...her Prada dress was adorned with mini forks, knives, bolts, and scissors.
Avatar star Zoe Saldana and Sarah Jessica Parker are getting mixed reviews. Saldana's Givenchy gown with beaded bodice and full skirt is being called a "controversial dress" by USA Today. Opinions about Parker's unique Chanel Haute Couture gown with flower neckline are also split...some love it; others hate it.
"It was definitely one of those dresses that not everybody is going to love, it looked a little loose, a little like a sack," Bloch said.
But overall, it was one red-hot red carpet for Hollywood's biggest night
