Regis Philbin's Last Day on Live

INSIDE EDITION was there for a moment of TV history as Regis Philbin ends his longtime career as host of one of the most successful television shows ever.

TV history was made as Regis Philbin ended his 28-year-run on morning television.

"I feel okay. I feel pretty good. Well I feel a little of the weight, the whole thing, the somberness of it all. And where's Regis going? Regis don't know. Stop asking me." said Philbin.

Emotions ran high during Philbin's final show.

Co-host Kelly Ripa told INSIDE EDITION, "I can't explain it to you, but I've had a lump in my throat for 9 months. And now it's almost choking me, because it's very hard to say goodbye."

Philbin holds the world record for most TV appearances of all time.

The audience was packed with Philbin's family and friends. Backstage, INSIDE EDITION spotted Philbin posing for pictures with Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer.

"I can't believe the nine o'clock hour will never be the same," said Judge Judy Sheindlin.

Meredith Viera told IE, "You know what, I'm feeling really excited for him. I don't think it's a sad day, I think it's a celebratory day. He's an amazing talent."

The show ended with touching words from Philbin himself:

"I'll always remember spending these mornings with you. So thank you very much for these great years together. God bless you all, and I hope to see you again, real soon. Thanks everybody," said Philbin.

Bounding onto the stage to embrace him were Ripa, his wife Joy, and his two daughters.

"INSIDE EDITION! How big can we get?" said Philbin.

INSIDE EDITION's spoke with Philbin, moments after he walked off the stage for the last time.

"It's been a lot of fun, and this was my decision. 28-and-a-half-years in one place doing one thing, I think it's long enough," said Philbin.

But, Philbin almost didn't make it to his final show.

Last night, Philbin took a nasty spill as he drove a red Vespa during his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.

It seems that the 80-year-old Philbin is truly indestructible, morning TV will never be the same.
