Sparkle Remake Could Have Been Whitney Houston's Comeback

Before Whitney Houston died she was helping to bring the remake of Sparkle back to the screen. Could it have become the comeback she needed? INSIDE EDITION has the story.

Whitney Houston has a starring role in her final movie, Sparkle.

Pastor T.D. Jakes co-produced the movie.

INSIDE EDITION's Diane McInerney asked, "What was her behavior like on the set?"

"I have to admit, I was expecting a character when I saw a bodyguard... but in reality she was pretty down-to-earth, she was very professional," said Jakes.

Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 film that starred Irene Cara. It's a story of three singing sisters, one of whom struggles with addiction—a problem that dogged Houston for much of her life.

"Did she ever appear to be under the influence?" asked McInerney.

"Not ever. Not in any way," replied Jakes.

In the Sparkle re-make, Houston plays the mom, and singer Jordin Sparks plays one of her daughters.

According to cast members, the production ran out of money as the final scenes were shot, so Houston wrote a check for $2 million to get the film done!

Sparkle is scheduled for release in August. T.D. Jakes believes Whitney Houston's final film would have been the comeback she dreamed of.

"Had she lived, it would have re-ignited her cinematic career," said Jakes.
