After another round of bad publicity over his latest rant, Mel Gibson appeared on The Tonight Show and made light of his infamous temper. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
Mel Gibson played it for laughs on The Tonight Show as he talked about his latest embarrassing meltdown—a foul-mouthed rant secretly recorded by a dinner guest at his home.
"Maybe you don't know this about me but I have a bit of a temper," said Gibson.
Despite a torrent of recent bad publicity, Gibson got a standing ovation when Jay Leno introduced him. He kicked off the interview with a jokey reference to the secret recording, which was leaked as part of an ongoing feud he's having with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas.
Gibson said, "I love coming on The Tonight Show because when you guys get me here and tape me, you let me know you're going to do that up front."
But Gibson revealed he was "kinda peeved" about the secret recording.
"A guy tapes you in your own home, in the private....Has it really come to the place where you can't blow off steam in your own home, even if you're justified?" said Gibson.
Reaction to his Leno appearance was mixed.
INSIDE EDITION's online poll shows 50 percent of those who responded said it helped Gibson's image by being open about his issues.
33 percent said it did nothing for him because his image is beyond repair.
And 17 percent said it further proved he has serious problems.
Gibson said to Leno, "It's been kind of weird, the last couple of years. It's like living in a bad B movie."
